  1. Here is a method to create your own iconized folders on a folder background of your own making.
  2.  
  3. You need a graphics package, Folder Icon Maker, and ResEdit.
  4. System 7 would also be nice.
  5.  
  6. 1.  Create a new Folder design.
  7.         a.  Make a new untitled folder.
  8.         b.    Use File/Get Info on the new folder, select the folder
  9.                 icon then choose Edit Copy.
  10.       c.  Paste the folder into a graphics package.
  11.                 (I set my package,Color-It, to be ruled in pixels)
  12.     d.  Fill the folder with the pattern of your choice.
  13.         e.  Select the new folder design (this should be 32x32 pixels)and Select Edit\copy.
  14. 2.  Copy the new design to the untitled folder.
  15.     a. Start Resedit
  16.         b.  Select File open and pick the new untitled folder
  17.     c.  Pick the icon "file" within the new untitled folder
  18.         d.  Edit the ic18 resource.
  19.         e.  Double click on the folder icon (resource -16455)
  20.         f.  Choose Edit\Paste
  21. 3.  Restart your Mac.
  22.         a.  Admire your work.
  23. 4.  Modify your copy of Folder Icon Maker.
  24.         a.  Resedit Folder Icon maker.
  25.     b.  Resedit your the untitled folder.
  26.         c.    Select the ic18 resource from the untitled folder.
  27.         d.  Select the new folder design (resource -16455)
  28.         e.  Choose Edit copy
  29.         f.   Select the resource window for Folder Icon Maker
  30.     g.    Select ic18 of folder icon maker
  31.     h.    Copy the new folder design to the ic18 resource
  32.           of Foldr Icon Maker.
  33.     i.    Click on the Folder Icon maker resource ID -16455
  34.     j.    Choose Resource, Get Resource Info and set the 
  35.                     resource ID to -3999.
  36. 5.        Take a break.
  37. 6.        Repeat the above for the ic14, ICN#, ics#, ics4 and
  38.             ics8 resources.
  39.       a.  Sounds intimidating but...
  40.       b.  Open Resource id -3999 of the ic18 resource of 
  41.                     Folder Icon Maker. Then drag the Resource Pict to 
  42.                     each of the above.  You will need to make small 
  43.                     edits on the Picts within Resedit.
  44. This works a lot better than the way I used to do this.  (Don't Ask)

  46. I've included a Resource File for the Crumpled Folders and a couple of examples of Iconized folders.
